Make an Emergency Kit
Sometimes, something bad can happen that makes it necessary for you and your family to leave your house and go somewhere safer. If this ever happens, it‘s important to take some special things with you. To be ready, have a parent or trusted adult help you make an emergency kit. Your kit should include
- A gallon of water
- A battery-powered radio
- A flashlight and extra batteries
- A first aid kit
- A whistle
- A wrench
- An emergency blanket
- A poncho
- Garbage bags and ties
- A card with your parents‘ phone numbers and addresses on it
Once you and your parent have found the parts of the kit, pack them in a bag or backpack. Then, put them in an easy-to-get-to place. Be sure you also go over what to do in an emergency. To learn even more, check out Ready Kids from the Department of Homeland Security.
